What ingredient is in sugar free candy and other snacks that cause constipation?

Is this ingredient in all sugar free products?

    I don’t know of any such ingredient. More often, the problem is diarrhea rather than constipation– and the cause is the sugar substitutes maltose or fructose. Usually there is a warning on packages indicating that excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.

    I read somewhere that Splenda causes constipation but I am not 100% sure if it is just Splenda or all of the substitutes.

    I am not sure of that ingredient either. The sugar alcohol in sugar free candy, when consumed in larger quantities, can cause diarrhea.
