back when i was a kid my brother and i got this candy from planters all the time. it came in an orange bag that had a sticker with the planters peanut man on the back so you could reseal the bag. The candy was in the shape of peanuts and was made out of wafers (like the sugar wafers) and was filled with peanut butter from what i could remember. they almost looked like a cross between nutter butter and circus peanuts. If anyone remembers them do you know where i can still get them?

This is my favorite recipe for peanut butter candy, with crunchy peanut butter and graham cracker crumbs. They taste fantastic. The recipe yield 30 cups.

Ingredients:

2 cups milk chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
2/3 cup graham cracker crumbs

Directions:

In 1-quart saucepan combine chocolate chips and shortening. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth (3 to 5 minutes).
Loosen top paper cup from stack, but leave in stack for greater stability while being coated. With small paint brush, coat inside top cup evenly with about 1 teaspoon melted chocolate to about 1/8-inch thickness, bringing coating almost to top of cup, but not over edge. Repeat until 30 cups are coated; refrigerate cups.

In 2-quart saucepan combine butter or margarine and peanut butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until melted (4 to 6 minutes). Stir in confectioners’ sugar and graham cracker crumbs. Press about 1/2 tablespoon filling into each chocolate cup.
Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon melted chocolate on top of filling; spread to cover. Freeze until firm (about 2 hours) carefully peel off paper cups. Store refrigerated.

If you want to make peanut butter candy you should try this recipe with graham crackers and semisweet chocolate chips. Even if you never before have made homemade candy, you will succeed with these very tasty tidbits. The recipe gives about: 4 dozen.

Ingredients:

10 graham crackers
2/3 cup butter, melted
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:

Line the bottom of a 10×15 inch jellyroll pan with graham crackers. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, confectioners’ sugar and peanut butter until smooth. Spread over the graham crackers, and chill until firm, about 15 minutes.

Melt chocolate chips in a bowl over simmering water or in the microwave oven, stirring frequently. Spread over the layer of chilled peanut butter mixture. Refrigerate until firm, then cut into squares.
These keep well placed between sheets of waxed paper in an air-tight container in the fridge.
